To begin with, I cut out soda. That didn't have a huge impact, but it was the best thing I could cut out initially.

Then I cut out pastries, including muffins.

Memorial Weekend Backpacking Trip - May 25th through May 28th 2007 - Sequoia National Park

Just about every year I organize a relatively easy beginning of season backpacking trip, and this year is no exception. We may even make it a "wacky hat" or "costume" hike. Ever see a guy wearing a wedding dress on the trail?

This time around we'll be backpacking the little used South Fork of the Kaweah River at least to Ladybug Camp and possibly all the way up to the South Fork Grove of Giant Sequoias depending on how the group feels. There are day hiking and fishing opportunities on this trip as well, so there's something for everyone.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, is invited no matter what your experience level might be. As usual, the more experienced backpackers will end up carrying most of the food and communal gear so that any beginners on the trip will have relatively light backpacks. If you don't have all the right gear, I will be more than happy to loan you whatever you might need for the trip. Since we'll share the cost of food I would anticipate that it'll cost you about $20 for the weekend plus whatever transport might be. I encourage carpooling from both the Bay Area and So. Cal.

We can either meet at the campground at the end of South Fork Road on Friday night or early Saturday morning. I'll post complete directions and maps at a later date. This destination is pretty much equidistant from both the Bay Area and Los Angeles and the trailhead is about a 4 hour drive from either metropolitan area.

So, if you have an interest in meeting some of the other members of this tribe, have not made other plans, and want a great backcountry adventure please post to this thread indicating your level interest. This will be cross posted to other tribes as well.

Weather permitting, I'm considering another foray up the South Fork of the Kaweah River to visit another grove of Giant Sequoias. This time we're going to backpack all the way up to the South Fork Grove. It'll be about a 2,600 elevation gain over 5 or 6 miles from the Ladybug trailhead. This area receives very little visitation, especially in the winter.

We may do an off-trail loop dayhike on Sunday that will take us to the top of the Homer's Nose Grove and then back down Cedar creek to the trail.

Anticipate cool weather, ranging from the 20s at night to 50s during the day, so bring appropriate layers, sleeping bag, and pad. If you don't have the proper equipment or clothing, I have enough stuff to equip an entire theme camp and I'm happy to outfit you completely should you need it.

I'll be leaving for Three Rivers on Friday and can accomodate a couple of happy hikers in my vehicle.

Post here and send me a tribe message if you have an interest in joining us.

It will be a bit chilly, but we'll build a nice fire. Temperatures should be in the 50s during the day and upper 20s at night, so bring appropriate layers, sleeping pad, and bag. Expect snow free trail conditions and about a 2,000 ft. gain in altitude.

I'll be driving up after work on Friday night and spending the night at another tribe member's place in Three Rivers. Saturday we'll hike in and Sunday we'll hike out in time to catch the StupidBowl Game in Three Rivers. I have room in my vehicle, if you want to carpool from L.A.. If you need any equipment, just let me know. I have plenty of extra equipment that you may borrow for the trip.
Many thanks go out to Rooster, Dale, Rolanda, Jon, Whisper, and Boolane for the "move Day" help; I ended up doing the other 6 days worth of hauling and cleaning solo. (you always have more than you think!)
The secret became clear into the 3rd day of schlepping boxes and ungainly furniture-- at first I felt weak and bad, and now after 6 full days of up and down those stairs, and lifting and lugging, I feel like wonderwoman! Duh again.
So here's the challenge in life--- How can one get consistant high level workouts if it isn't called for? This was a "hafta do". It's clear that my body type needs a regular hard workout to run optimally. But if the urgent task aint there, it just doesnt happen.
I have a committment to myself to retain my fittness thru the holidays-- always a challenge.
Well, My Playa bike is clean and ready to go, and i plan on biking to the beach and yoga in Santa Monica. Anyone else up to that?

My only downfall is the diet which I need to change (I haven't finished my girl scout cookies yet).

The sign-up costs are outrageous, and the monthly is pretty high, but its still less than I'm spending per month on Bar Method classes (which I love but at $20 per I can't afford to go more than 1x a week).

While I do already belong to LA Fitness I'm just not going. I don't really care for any of their classes and the machines don't inspire me much. BIM has yoga, pilates, dance and a TON of kickboxing classes and it just sounds like something that would work better for me. The gym is also very clean, and not terribly busy.
I've read a lot of mixed reviews about the place, does anyone have any experience with the West LA location or the company in general?

i am really excited to announce that i can now offer your first class free with me, if you are new to the studios i am teaching at.

My schedule is posted on my tribe page - and the owners of Karuna Yoga and Bala Yoga (beautiful folks) have both agreed to let me invite students to take my first class free. If you want a free class pass, please let me know and i will get it in your hands.

I am happy to invite all of Los Angeles to check out what i do - these classes are all Introductions to Ashtanga Yoga - they are beneficial for all levels of practitioners. If you are an advanced student, i guarantee you will learn something new about your primary series practice in my class - if you have never done yoga before, i can work with you to get the most out of this experience by increasing your sensitivity and awareness in each breath and getting your body moving in a way that is appropriate for your level. I am also experienced in working with folks who are dealing with injuries – illnesses or extremely stressful situations.

I am hoping to be teaching mysore style ashtanga yoga soon here in LA - and i am looking for a space in downtown LA or near Hollywood to start an afternoon practice where i can work simultaneously with students of all levels on cultivating a consistent daily practice... if you know of a good space, please let me know!

And while i have your attention - i am actively seeking to WORK. Teaching yoga in LA town pays very very little and gas just keeps getting more expensivo. I am happy to work privately with anyone who wants to learn ashtanga yoga - i am an excellent Raw Food counselor - Intuitive Coach - structural Bodyworker and teacher of meditation and pranayama. If you need me and i can help you lets find a way to work together!

Saturday, April 15th -@5PM
Monday, April 17th @ 6PM
Wednesday, April 19th @ 6PM
Saturday, April 22nd @ 10:30AM
Tuesday, April 25th@10:30 AM

On the Bala schedule, these classes have designated 'levels'. I am a skilled teacher and can teach a multi-level class, so my invititaion is for students of all levels to join me if they are interested in learning more about Ashtanga Yoga. Ashtanga Yoga is a beautiful practice that systematically heals the body and creates new levels of awareness. However, being a deep and powerful healing modality, it requires high levels of concentration and awareness. We work on that in class, in addition to the physical postures. Los Angeles has very little Ashtanga - and i believe a lot of interest.

I am subbing here a lot - and beginning in May will be teaching a permanent class here on Saturdays @9AM

I am also teaching an Intro to Ashtanga class REGULARLY at Karuna Yoga
Saturdays at 1PM
Karuna is located in Los Feliz at 1939 1/2 Hillhurst, entrance in the back.

Hi friends,

As many of you know, last year i sold my yoga studio
in Chicago, fell in love, and moved to LA. This has been a pretty bumpy transition for me, and teaching yoga has been on the backburner. For most of this last year, I haven’t worked at all. And there have been many moments where i have wondered what was next for me.

Then, in the last few weeks, I traveled down to Costa
Rica, where I worked with lovely, dedicated students, to teach a yoga workshop that I had planned last year.
And I was reminded, very clearly, that this work, teaching Ashtanga yoga, is my work. It felt great to teach - and now i feel hungry to get back to it. And hungry is not just a metaphor......I need to make some money, it is time to get back on track!

So I wanted to announce to my friends and family – to really say out loud to the universe that I am ready to work, send some my way!

I am happy to work with anyone at any level. I can teach to advanced ashtanga yoga students as well as beginners who are interested in developing a steady yoga practice, and I love to teach meditation, pranayama and to work with people who are battling or recovering from any sort of health issues.

I have taught yoga to students dealing with severe injuries – using one arm or no arms, and I have taught to students who were terminally ill. I have worked with a host of celebrities as well, which everyone keeps telling me is important in LA.

While my main focus is to create private sessions, I am also open to working with small groups. If you have a friend, or 3 or 5 who want to come together to learn this practice in a safe and effective way, I will work with the group.

In addition to yoga sessions, I am also available to do nutritional coaching sessions, working within the framework of raw food nutrition. I have helped people 'redo' their kitchens, I have taught raw food preparation classes on a variety of topics, and I can combine this sort of coaching with yoga and my other skills as an intuitive coach.

Currently, I am living in downtown LA. And, at least right now, I am willing to drive anywhere in the LA area to work. My fee is $100 for a private, running one hour and 15 minutes. And I will work on a sliding scale for anyone in need, who cannot afford my fee. I am also interested in trade, although right now what I need most are groceries (organic produce) and gas – so if you can trade me for some really basic survival stuff, I am open.

At this point in time, creating work is my focus – send me any ideas or possibilities. I find tribe to be an amazing forum for creating community and supporting each other. If you have a friend or a relative who you feel might benefit from my skills, please feel free to forward them my information(ashtangachicago@yahoo.com). I greatly appreciate the support I find here and hope that I can be of service in this community.

peace and love

Since the weather forecast for the weekend has improved somewhat, I'm now thinking of heading down to Deep Creek Hot Springs near Hisperia sometime this weekend to take a well deserved soak. At the moment I'm waiting to hear back from a friend who is not on tribe to see what day(s) is better. Heck, I might even do both days since you can camp at Bowen Ranch and it's only a mile and a half hike each direction.

I think that the directions to Bowen Ranch were posted in an thread in the So.Cal.Hiking! tribe last year, but I can provide them if you can't find the thread. Cost is minimal, something like $5 parking at the ranch. Bring snacks and plenty of water or other beverages as you may become dehydrated while sitting in the hot springs.

Let me know if you're interested in joining me by posting here or by sending me a tribe message. I'll be off-line as of 5:00 PM on Friday, so if you already have my phone number, feel free to call if I don't respond to the message or your posting.

Hey ya all,

Three of my regular hiking crew and I are going to be doing a day hike to the Palisade Overlook from Trippet Ranch at around 11:00 AM this Saturday barring any really bad hangovers. The current weather forecast is for a 20% chance of rain so bring your raingear, water, snacks, trail shoes or hiking boots, and whatever else will make you comfortable and happy. It's around 8 miles round trip and usually takes about 3 to 4 hours to do the walk. Afterwards we may end up down in Topanga Canyon and grab a bite to eat and a beverage at Abulitas Mexican Restaurant.

We typically avoid paying the $5 parking fee by parking at the top of Colina Drive at Waveview, 1/4 mile uphill from and a little past the Entrada Drive entrance to the park. I'll be driving my white Jeep Cherokee with a few Burning Man stickers on the back ("BRC").

Trippet Ranch is the headquarters for Topanga State Park and features a park office, ranger residence and nature center. Directions to the park - drive south from Ventura Fwy (101) or north from Pacific Coast Highway on Topanga Canyon Blvd to Entrada Road on east side of road. Turn east on Entrada Road and make two left turns to stay on Entrada Road to park entrance. The park is open from 8:00 AM to sunset and is located at 20825 Entrada Drive, Topanga 90290. Fee parking is $5.00 per vehicle. For information call 310.455.2465 or (310) 454-8212 (I don't know which number is valid).

Feel free to send me a tribe message or post here if you have any questions.

Well, I'm in a huge rejuvenation process and have a few ideas to get us motivated.

I'd love for us all to plan an activity/class/speaker and set it up ahead of time. I kow the holiday season is busy for everyone, but if it's on a calendar ahead, you know you can always drop in if the subject/activity interest you and you're free. And, there are a lot of people on this tribe that can keep it up (and I'll pick up the rest.). Toss out any suggestions that you may have for speakers/classes (nutritionists, fitness people, organic chefs etc) and activities (rollerblading by the beach, hooping in the park, hiking, rock climbing) we can also plan sat/sun activities for those interested. I'd love to put a calendar together so we all have a heads up on upcoming activities (that we plan AND those of interest to us planned by others).

Let's have some fun and get back in shape (or keep up the good work for those of you). I'm also putting together an email list/phone list of friends (tribe and others) that would like to be kept informed on upcoming activities.)

Looking forward to playing and getting in shape with you guys!

Magnesium:
A Key to Calcium Absorption
By Nan Kathryn Fuchs, Ph.D.

Dr. Fuchs is a nutritional consultant in private practice in Santa Monica, CA, and is author of "The Nutrition Detective."

One of the most popular minerals in the news today is calcium, needed for strong bones and teeth. We are told to take increased amounts in our diet as a supplement to prevent osteoporosis and eliminate muscle cramping during menstruation or from over-exercising. Yet, calcium alone is often not enough. Without magnesium, calcium may be not fully utilized, and underabsorption problems may occur leading to arthritis, osteoporosis, menstrual cramps, and some premenstrual symptoms.

Perhaps the single most significant reason calcium malabsorption is so common today is due to a discrepancy between what we eat and how we digest and absorb the nutrients in our food. Our diets today are very different from those of our ancestors though our bodies remain similar.

Thousands of years ago, our ancestors ate foods high in magnesium and low in calcium. Because calcium supplies were scarce and the need for this vital mineral was great, it was effectively stored by the body. Magnesium, on the other hand, was abundant and readily available, in the form of nuts, seeds, grains, and vegetables, and did not need to be stored internally.

Our bodies still retain calcium and not magnesium although we tend to eat much more dairy than our ancestors. In addition, our sugar and alcohol consumption is higher than theirs, and both sugar and alcohol increase magnesium excretion through the urine. Our grains, originally high in magnesium, have been refined, which means that the nutrient is lost in the refining process. The quality of our soil has deteriorated as well, due to the use of fertilizers that contain large amounts of potassium a magnesium antagonist. This results in foods lower in magnesium than ever before.

ARTHRITIS AND OSTEOPOROSIS
Two major health problems, arthritis and osteoporosis, may be caused in part by a magnesium deficiency. When you look at how calcium is absorbed these problems become easier to understand, and often can be controlled through diet.

Magnesium is needed for calcium absorption. Without enough magnesium, calcium can collect in the soft tissues and cause one type of arthritis. Not only does calcium collect in the soft tissues of arthritics, it is poorly, if at all, absorbed into their blood and bones. But taking more calcium is not the answer; it only amplifies the problem. In fact, excessive calcium intake and insufficient magnesium can contribute to both of these diseases. Magnesium taken in proper dosages can solve the problem of calcium deficiency.

When calcium is elevated in the blood it stimulates the secretion of a hormone called calcitonin and suppresses the secretion of the parathyroid hormone (PTH). These hormones regulate the levels of calcium in our bones and soft tissues and are, therefore, directly related to both osteoporosis and arthritis. PTH draws calcium out of the bones and deposits it in the soft tissues, while calcitonin increases calcium in our bones and keeps it from being absorbed in our soft tissues. Sufficient amounts of magnesium determine this delicate and important balance.

Because magnesium suppresses PTH and stimulates calcitonin it helps put calcium into our bones, preventing osteoporosis, and helps remove it from our soft tissues eliminating some forms of arthritis. A magnesium deficiency will prevent this chemical action from taking place in our bodies, and no amount of calcium can correct it. While magnesium helps our body absorb and retain calcium, too much calcium prevents magnesium from being absorbed. So taking large amounts of calcium without adequate magnesium may either create malabsorption or a magnesium deficiency. Whichever occurs, only magnesium can break the cycle.

In experiments reported in "International Clinical Nutrition Review," a number of volunteers on a low-magnesium diet were given both calcium and vitamin D supplements. AU the subjects were magnesium-depleted and although they had been given adequate supplements, all but one became deficient in calcium. When they were given calcium intravenously, the level of calcium in their blood rose, but only for the duration of the intravenous feeding. As soon as the intravenous calcium was stopped, the levels calcium in the blood dropped. However, when magnesium was given, their magnesium levels rose and stabilized rapidly, and calcium levels also rose within a few days - although no additional calcium had been taken.

Dr. Guy Abraham, M.D., a research gynecologist and endocrinologist in premenstrual syndrome and osteoporosis has found strong evidence to suggest that women with osteoporosis have a deficiency of a chemical that is made when they take twice as much magnesium as calcium. In fact, he has found that when calcium intake is decreased, it is utilized better than when it is high. Dr. Abraham is one of many doctors and biochemists who advocate taking more magnesium to correct calcium-deficiency diseases.

A magnesium-rich diet can be helpful both for arthritis and to help prevent osteoporosis. This consists of nuts, whole grains such as brown rice, millet, buckwheat (kasha), whole wheat, triticate, and rye, and legumes including lentils, split peas, and a varieties of beans. A whole grain cereal or bread in the morning, a cup of bean soup at lunch, a snack of a few nuts, and serving of brown rice, millet, or buckwheat with dinner should help increase magnesium when a deficiency is suspected.

At the same time, refined sugar and alcohol should be reduced, and eliminated when possible to prevent magnesium from being excreted in large quantities in the urine. You may also want to re-evaluate the amount of dairy in your diet. If it has been disproportionately high, reduce or temporarily eliminate it until some of your symptoms are alleviated, or until you feel more of a balance has been achieved through the inclusion of whole grains and legumes. Oriental and Indian diets contain little or no dairy, yet arthritis and osteoporosis are not major health problems in these cultures. Their foods consist primarily of green vegetables, grains, tofu, and seafood, and are twice as high in magnesium as our average diets.

Calcium causes muscles to contract, while magnesium helps them relax. When calcium is taken for menstrual cramps it knocks magnesium out of the cells and makes it more available for immediate use. However, it depletes the body of magnesium and ensures that the problem will recur the following month unless sufficient magnesium is added to the diet. Taking calcium gives temporary relief of menstrual cramps.

A diet high in dairy and low in whole grains can lead to excess calcium in the tissues and a magnesium deficiency. The source of menstrual cramps may be coming from eating too much cheese, yogurt, ice cream or milk, combined with insufficient whole grains and beans. Or it could come from taking too much calcium without enough magnesium. Modifying your diet and increasing your magnesium supplementation may allow your menstrual cramps to disappear.

Premenstrual chocolate craving is a phenomenon that has puzzled a great many women who are not controlled by this overwhelming urge at other times of the month. Yet chocolate, which is highest in magnesium of all foods, is often a sign of magnesium deficiency. If your diet is high in calcium you may have poor calcium absorption as well. The answer is not to eat more chocolate, but to increase your magnesium by eating more whole grains, nuts, seafood, and green vegetables, and by increasing your magnesium supplements. Your chocolate cravings will vanish when you have enough magnesium in your diet.

According to Dr. Mildred Seelig, executive president of the American College of Nutrition, we need an average of 200 mg. more than we get from the average diet.

Foods highest in magnesium are nuts (especially almonds and cashews), whole grains, seafood, and legumes (including tofu). Eat more of these, while reducing sugar and alcohol, which increase magnesium excretion. Don't overlook one vitamin or mineral for another since all work together to supply you with the nutrients you need. And consult your nutritionally- oriented physician about all nutrients before trying them.

A balanced diet of fresh, whole foods is your best maintenance diet. But if you have been taking large amounts of calcium and ignoring magnesium you may want to reverse the proportions until you achieve a better balance. Sufficient magnesium may be your missing link.

**Absolutely, that would rock. I usually charge 45 dollars a person for a group of 3 or more. For you I would be able to swing 20 per? That's an hour and a half - two hours long depending. I usually alternate week to week. I combine my workouts with beginning aerobics and stretching, stott pilates/padma-power flow yoga fusion. It's a BLAST and all I need is some carpet space and a few breathing bodies.
If that pricing doesn't work for you, let me know...I'd love to work something out....this is an awesome way to feel great and focus your mind. My schedule is ALWAYS alternating..so let me know what would work for you..and I'll PEN ya in. Evenings are usually better, seeing as dinner and bed are a good conclusion to a nice mind/body workout. Again, whatever works for you... **

Now....you can afford the $20 / session right? Who's in besides Aimee, Lolo and moi? I can fit 6 peeps in my living room....maybe 8. When I get 6 committed people...I will schedule something with Chris. I want to make worth his while to give us a private session.
The cool thing is I now know exactly what to do to change it back to muscle in less than 2 weeks. I will probably have this pattern for the next decade or so, and I am trained in how to deal with my health; there's no more mysteries.
Sure I'd like to stay at the low end of my fat cycle all the time, but that's just not realistic in this rebuilding phase of my life. I hear there are actually people out there who reach some form of stability, that would be nice. Till then, I know how to take care of myself.

Hello, fierce goddesses!

YES! YES! YES! More hot, sexy, fierce bitchez in my life please. I mean, I do have a lot, but truly, I could never have enough. Especially of the ones who love freedom, love to create and love to play and take all those yummy elements to create silly brilliance!

Would you like to do some of that with ME because THIS is an invitation to do just that!

Among other things, including being a writer (I have a pilot that is being independently produced at the moment. HOORAY!), actor, model, caterer, I am also a stage performer and I am involved in a very hilarious and irreverant music driven comedy show called DC JUICY.

It's a TOTAL parody of the whole "Bitches and Hos/ Bling Bling aspect of Hip Hop and R&B. It has 2 hilarious front men acting as a hip hop duo backed by an entourage of "Man Slices" (super white guys in track suits doing retarded dance moves, "Bitchez" dancing and strutting their stuff something fierce, big black security men, etc. etc....

In recent shows we've incorporated hoopers, staff and poi spinners, a chinese dragon smoking a 7 ft. joint...The craziness just gets more and more fabulous. For this next show there will be stilt walkers, ribbon dancers, belly dancers, etc.

We've done the main stage at the Comedy Store and did a sold out show at the Ivar Theatre. It seats 300. Yes, we sold out a 300 seat theatre! We were in Vegas a couple of weeks ago where we headlined the official party for the couture version of the Magic show (fashion convention) and kicked butt all over the 40 Deuce at the Mandalay Bay. All 25 performers. So much FUN!

So, we are doing our NEXT show on March the 26th at the Ivar Theatre and I have a vision to orchestrate a very simple, but fun number just for the women. Kind of like Chicago, but not. It would be VERY easy choreography. You DO NOT have to be a trained dancer. I'm looking to do it with about 10 to 15 girls. If you would like to come and play with the Juicy and lend your hotness to a ridiculously fun and outrageous show...please do let me know.

All of the performers do the show simply for the love of it and because it's such a ball. Noone gets paid. Someday soon, I hope, but the bigger the show is getting the more it is moving in the direction of becoming a commercial gig.

At the moment I am working on getting a photographer specifically to take photos of the girls and maybe some video footage as well. We are also stepping into the world of merchandising and are working on having some DC JUICY hot shorts or tanks for you to wear in the number on stage, which of course you would keep.

Indeed! Calling all Hot and Sexy, Bitchezzz!

There is a rehearsal IN 2 DAYS, on
Wednesday, March 16 at
The Millenium Dance Complex
5113 Lankershim Blve. Studio #3
N. Hollywood, CA. 91601

WHEN: Fom 8 -9:30.

Call 818-753-5081 for directions, and email me directly if you do want to come play that way I can know to expect you.

At this rehearsal WE all get to create from scratch a brand new number. The idea is to have it be kind of a parody of the Chicago Cell Block Number. That shoud be fun as hell! At the moment we have 7 to 8 gilrs confirmed! There will also be another rehearsal next week, and then a quick run through at the theatre probably the day before or the day of the show. Super simple. Super easy!

To be sure, if you choose to do this it will be because you love to play and perform and meet really creative, fun people. I really love and believe in the show and the people who created it and I love being a creative element in it as well, so I'm SUPER clear that this production has no room for divas, only people who love being creative, are willing to be silly and make fun of themselves and have a good time.

If that's you, I would love to meet you and have you come and play with the JUICY and yet BE PROFESSIONAL and have INTEGRITY. I realize asking people to do those things where there's no money involved can be challenging, but believe me it's worth it.

Call me if you are interested.

I personally can not wait for the show on the 26th because it is going to be outrageous fun!

All love and gratitude,

Kalla aka Lady Godiva/Macalicious

Can i just say that spinning rocks??? With all the pumped up music (music that my trainer and i normally laugh at but that sounded amazing in the actual class) the time flew by, and my legs have felt so strong and pumped!! Plus, the instructor said that depending on our size, we were burning 800-900 calories!! That's twice as much as i usually burn on the machines!!

I'm gonna do this little sunday hike with the outdoors club. Anybody wanna join me?

The following event has been planned in your area from 3/20/2005 to 3/20/2005

Region : California
Location : LOS ANGELES County, CA
Event title : Hidden Trail high above Hollywood
Level : Beginning
Number of spots : 20
Event Coordinator name : Tu
Email : tu2pasd@yahoo.com
Description :

Have you discover the hidden trails high above Hollywood?

Runyon Canyon Park: (Map: USGS 7.5' Hollywood)
This jewel of a park, almost completely undeveloped, is one of Hollywood's best kept secrets. The canyon is a steep gorge which runs from just above Franklin Avenue (at Fuller) to Mulholland Drive. Today it is used by hikers, dog owners who love the freedom not found in many parks, and nature lovers enjoying the vistas offered.
Time: Sunday, March 20, 2005 - 4:00-6:00pm
About a level 3 hike
Beginning to Moderate pace
@2 hours hike
Meeting Place:
Gate by the South Entrance: Hollywod Fwy (101) to Highland Avenue. South to Franklin Ave.

West on Franklin to Fuller, north on Fuller to dead end. Park on street.

Park anywhere in the neighborhood

Give yourself at least 10 minutes to find parking. It's well worth the hike and view.

Bring:
At least 1 liter of water, light snack, dress for the weather, & anything else that will make you feel comfortable.

See you on the trail,

So...sitting in the Dr's office..waiting, waiting, bored, bored....I came across this Health Article that I thought I'd pass on:

Which is Worse:

1) Being fit but a bit heavy or being a skinny couch potato?
Being fit wins. Skinny people can die of Cardio issue just as easy as overweight people due to lack of exercise. Exercise is where the real health benefits are at.

2) Smoking a couple of cigarettes or spending two hours in a smoky bar?
Smoky bar wins. Even casual smoking increasings your risk of Cancer by 2,000 percent.

3) Getting sun outside or in a tanning bed?
Outside Sun wins. Tanning beds have 10 times move wrinkle causing/cancer causing UVA rays.

4) Eating a not-so-fabulous diet or eating junk food but taking a multivitamin?
Not-so-fabulous diet wins. Having a little real food (fresh veggies/fruit) is better because it provides the fiber and disease-fighting phytochemicals that a pill can't give you.

5) Doughnuts for breakfast (this also includes danish and pop-tarts) or nothing for breakfast?
The 'nothing' wins. Even though a morning meal jump-starts your metabolism, that boost is not enough to burn off the average 400 calories and 24 fat grams packed into two glazed doughnuts.

I've been doing it for 2 weeks now and my arms are toning up incredibly fast! There are also a couple of great side to side lunges and back lunges that have been working my butt and legs really well. I love how portable it is too-- great for travel.
